Peru is known for Macchu Piccu, but also for the llamas in the Andes and the knitted shawls and caps of alpaca wool, with ear flaps and colourful patterns. In the ancient knitting tradition of Peru, each pattern had its own meaning. The caps and shawls are being knitted in these age-old patterns to the present day. The products of tuyu are made in workshops in Lima, employing among others people from Puno, where the knitting originated. The owners are small entrepreneurs, who are able to make a living, and to create employment under good circumstances for their people.
Juan: ´At first I didn´t know if I could handle large production orders. But I said yes, and I have succeeded in delivering on time. Since then we have had work, we have never stopped.´
